From October 1 to 3, the PROTOTYP Festival will make its full-scale debut in the public spaces of Brno’s city center. Streets, squares, building facades, and select interiors will come alive with digital art, light, sound, and technology. Visitors can look forward to video mapping, light installations, audiovisual interventions, interactive artworks, and workshops, as well as an opening fashion performance and a concert. The festival will guide you through the historic center and its iconic landmarks, such as the Vegetable Market (Zelný trh), Freedom Square (náměstí Svobody), Špilberk Castle, and the New Town Hall. Thanks to support from the city and the region, a large portion of the program will be free to the public.
For an even deeper festival experience, the PROTOTYP Pass is available—a ticket granting access to an additional, limited-capacity paid route. It leads to select interiors and unique locations offering a more concentrated version of the festival. You can choose a one-day pass, a three-day pass, or an Express Pass to significantly reduce waiting times in queues.
As a festival preview, the organizers have prepared "PROTOTYP Preview," an immersive audiovisual show at the Church of St. James, which can be visited in the evenings from September 18 to 20, 2026.
The site-specific immersive installation *Journey of Light* (Cesta světla) transforms the sacred space of the Church of St. James into a monumental audiovisual show. The work blends Gothic architecture with a narrative about the birth, order, and demise of the universe, while drawing upon the site's historic *genius loci* and the symbolism of the St. James pilgrimage. Through the precise use of light and an organ soundscape, the boundary between the physical structure and the depths of the cosmos is blurred—spanning everything from the Big Bang to the silent birth of a new planet.
When purchasing a ticket for the Prototyp Preview at the Church of St. James, you can also buy a ticket for the festival’s paid tour route at the Information Centre on Zámečnická Street (subject to availability).
