A one-day coach trip to Hukvaldy, the birthplace of Leoš Janáček, lying near to Ostrava, some 150 km from Brno. The first stop in Hukvaldy will be a tour of the Leoš Janáček Monument, the home which Janáček bought from his sister-in-law in 1921 and today contains a charming exhibition dedicated to the composer and his native land. This will be followed by a visit to the former Hukvaldy school, where Janáček, the son of a teacher, was born. After lunch (not included), there is a visit to the Hukvaldy nature preserve and a statue of Liška Bystrouška. Before departure there will be time for a walk across the square to purchase the famed Moravian cake “lopaťák” from the Hukvaldy bakery. On the way back to Brno there will be another stop in nearby Příbor with a tour of the home of the celebrated father of psychology, Sigmund Freud.
The guide is the musicologist Jan Špaček. Departure from Brno (Janáček Theatre/Rooseveltova street) at 8:00 a.m., the return time to Brno will be approximately 7pm.
